Budget Update #28
This morning the State Legislature adopted a budget for fiscal year 2010-11, which Governor Schwarzenegger is expected to sign.
The budget restores $199 million in base budget funding for the CSU as well as $60.6 million additional for enrollment.
The CSU has released a statement about the state budget.
These funds allow us to follow through on our plan to enroll additional students for the spring semester. The campus distribution of the final state budget will be determined by the Chancellor’s Office and is expected to be available next week. As soon as that information is received we will share it with you.
The President’s Budget Advisory Committee will meet as soon as the information is known and will engage in its normal thoughtful deliberation about the many factors that can impact the budget going forward. PBAC will ultimately vote on a recommendation to President Weber about the allocation of these funds.
In addition, the CSU has received $106 million through an allocation of State Fiscal Stabilization Fund dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
SDSU’s share of these one-time funds is $8.8 million. PBAC will meet on Thursday, October 14 to recommend to the President allocation of the ARRA funds - which underlie SDSU’s ability to admit new students for the spring semester.
Finally, the state budget also includes $57.2 million in funding for the long-awaited renovation of Storm/ Nasatir Hall. This is a project that is truly “shovel ready” and we anticipate moving quickly to get work underway. More information about classroom and office relocations will be sent shortly.
We are relieved that this much-delayed 2010-11 budget process is complete, and appreciate the support it represents for higher education. More importantly, the good will and good work of each of you under difficult circumstances is appreciated.
